Outing to Haga!

On Thursday all 2nd graders went to Haga to play in the forest! Great for all of us restless after the freedom of summer...

It was fun to try out the conga drums during music.

Newsbooks: writing about "My Best Birthday Party."

       

Everyone has ideas on what a successful birthday party is. The children wrote their thoughts on a very good party they had been to, or how they would like their future party to be. 

Outing to Naturens Hus

        

Anne from Naturens hus gave us a presentation on the life cycle of of a plant. The children were given seeds at their first stage of germination to examine. It was interesting to see the first changes in seeds.

        

After the presentation, we all planted our own seeds; vegetable or flower seeds.  Then we had a wonderful picnic outside. A truly enjoyable outing!

Orientation activity at gym

         

Julia, the gym teacher went through the instructions for the orientation exercise.

         

The children were very good at map reading and finding the different items on their maps.

Job Presentation: working with movies at SF

As we had already very nicely been invited to SF by Victor's mum to see the Lasse Maja movie, many children said they knew what Victor's mum did. Everyone however learnt something new with Eva's presentation. The children thought the best part was watching movie trailers. And who knows? Maybe someone can help for film dubbing in the future?

Easter activities

            

The children worked with the Greenie class for our Easter craft activities. Great team work!

Science: talking about autumn

              

The children first read a text on autumn, discussed autumn signs and then drew/painted autumn trees. Beautiful wok!

More triangle work

               

The children sorted triangles in many different ways: according to color, size and of course according to their sides: equilateral, isosceles and scalene.

               

The children then tried making triangular shapes on the iPad using the app Geoboard. The challenge was to count how many triangles you used in your figure. Not always easy!

Nature walk

              

We went for a walk in the park looking for signs of spring. Look!  grass growing, buds coming out and even the first flowers! We picked out 3 trees/shrubs we will be observing for the next year.

Which triangle?

             

We worked with triangles this week. What properties do triangles have? We talked about 3 types of triangles: equilateral (3 sides the same), isosceles (2 sides the same) and scalene (no sides the same). The children looked through magazines trying to look for these different types of triangles. Fun!

Being a policeman

            

Dan (Alexander) spoke to us about what it means to be a policeman. The children were very keen to contribute to the discussion by telling their stories related to policemen.it was interesting to hear about the resources engaged in police work. Thanks Dan!

Patents and inventions

              

Who wants to be an inventor? What do you do when you come up with an invention? Eric (Emma) talked to us about patents and inventions. It got everyone thinking and all the children started coming up with ideas for inventions. Who knows? Future inventors?

Presenting stories

            

Beginning, middle and end. The 3 parts a story should have. Everyone tried writing their stories and then read them out to the class. Great feedback from the Swedish teachers!

Chess with buddy class

                 

4b were delighted to share their chess talents with us after coming 2nd for "Shäck fyran" at the Globen. And they did notice that we do have some talented players in the class! It was fun to play chess together.

Seasons of the Year

    

What are we working with? Yes, you have guessed, seasons! Which seasons do we represent? This was our general introduction of the new theme we were presenting for all 3 first grade classes.

    

We then went back to the class and did some brainstorming of what the children knew around seasons. This is what we came up with!

Art work with patterns

        

        

Patterns, patterns, patterns!

Working with patterns this week has been about making different patterns with concrete material in small groups. What creative patterns the different groups came up with!

         

         

         

Working for Telia.

              

Telia? Who does not recognize the emblem? Well, all the children did! What does it mean to work for Telia and to be at the head of Human resources? What happens to you when you are fired? What do like about your job? These are just a few examples of questions asked. "Very often, something unexpected happens....there is never never a boring day" was a perfect end to a very informative presentation!

Making commercial films

            

Robbie (Seven) is a film director and focuses on making short documentaries and commercials. He showed the class some commercials he had made. He also talked about the fun aspect of being a film director and the difficulties of making movies. Very interesting! A big THANK-YOU!

Job presentation

                  

Lotta (Saskia's mum) spoke to the class about how to market products for Electrolux. " It is fun to meet people from all over the world, discuss their needs and design products" she said. You have to be good with numbers and enjoy talking to people. Almost everyone could imagine themselves doing this kind of job! Thank you Lotta!

How many days?

            

We have been counting every day we are in school since the beginning of the school year. Each day is represented by a coin.There is a lot of math in this exercise: counting, money, changing (five 1 coins to a 5 coin, two 5 coins to a 10 coin and ten 10 coins to one hundred note). Great everyday math!

Gymnastics

            

An important part of the gym lesson (as with many other lessons) is to be able to listen to instructions!

Working with Jobs

             

During the lesson, the children watched a documentary on different jobs around which there was a discussion.

Our February break

             

             

The children wrote about their February break in their Newsbooks. It was interesting to read about the wide variety of things everyone had done. How well the children are beginning to write!

English: Picture Dictionary

           

After working with Picture Dictionary and looking up words which begin with a certain letter, the children write a story using as many words beginning with the letter of the week.

          

The children read their stories to each other. It is always interesting to hear each others's stories.
