Science!

Here are some pictures from our first lesson with our science project!

20 solid objects in each tray!

We test the properties of the steel ball and plastic spoon. How are they different? How are they alike?

"The ball can spin, can the spoon spin?"

"Yes! The spoon can spin too. "
"But, the ball spins longer."

"The steel ball is heavier than the plastic spoon."

"The steel ball is hard, you can't brake it."

"You could brake the spoon."

Stella's drawing of the tray with 20 objects!

Experiments...

Next week we continue with more testing and observations and fun!

News week 15

Welcome back...

...from your Easter break.

The kids have been eager to get back to work, so we have!
Our Alphabet corner is now filled with x-words, axe, the Lorax, flexi-tracks, fox, x-ray, box, Alexander, T-rex and an exam!

We are completing the drawings of the months and a cover in order to produce a small book with them all.

Our science project “solids and liquids” has begun! It will carry on for several weeks this spring. We will be investigating properties of different solid objects (and later liquids), approximately twice a week in half class groups. The groups are called “the sun” and “the moon”. When one group is working with science, the other group will be working with Robson.

They were really into the work and good at putting words to their thoughts.

Our outing to the theater on Thursday was another exciting part of our week.
And it went really well!

The children enjoyed the play “Snäll” and had a good time in the park afterwards.

We had a really interesting discussion about the play when we were back in the classroom again.

A very exciting part of this wek was to recieve a secret friend!
Next week we will see if we figure out who it was....

Week 16

* Monday 15th of April: Home Story Books, but no alphabet corner needed-
We have a visit from a tooth expert!  Bring things beginning with “Y” for week 17.

* Wednesday 17th of April – SCHOOL CLOSED. All staff have a study day.

We have changed the blog adress to something less confusing: jitterbugzblog.blogspot.com

Enjoy the expected warmer days this weekend!

News Week 13 (March 25th-28th)

Hello everyone!

It is slowly getting a little warmer and everyone is beginning to get a bit of that “Spring feel.”

After Easter might be the time to look through your children’s boxes and take home winter stuff. It might also be a good moment to look through the lost and found clothes in the A house!

We have had a fun week filled with learning activities and crafty projects.

Letter “W” in the Alphabet Corner brought us objects like a window cleaner, wands, the statue of a witch, soft toy of a whale, drawing of water melon, Wii game, wheel barrow , world record book and “Wreck-it Ralf” film poster.

We discussed Earth hour, what it meant and what some of us had done.

Everyone drew a picture and wrote something about Earth Hour or of something they had done over the weekend.

Sorry about the quality of the photos, the writing is in pencil, come check them out in the classroom for a better read!

During fruit time we are currently reading this book aloud.
The children are really enjoying the story.

When they have finished their fruit, they are able to sit on the round rug. Almost every time they start massaging each other! So it happens that we continue doing that when we have finished reading.

On Thursday, the children made creative Easter cards with FA. It was fun to be with them  and do crafts together.

We also made little “bird Easter cards” for our mentor class and surprised them with our “nest” full of birds. The birds then flew to all their buddies in the the 3e classroom ;). It was a sweet pre-easter reunion. How happy they were!

Week 15 (after the Easter break)

  • Monday April 8th: Letter X- as it is difficult to find things which begin with the letter “X” we want the children to bring in objects which have an “x” in them. Fewer children have been bringing in objects: Help and encourage your children to bring in objects. It makes the lesson more fun!
  • Wednesday April 10th: We start with our Science project in half class, so we will not be having gym classes. No gym clothes!
  • Thursday April 11th: Outing to the theatre. Bring a pack lunch!

Please note the correct blog address for our class:

Have a wonderful Easter break!

News week 12

Hi everybody!

We are happy to be writing our Newsletter on the blog for the first time! We aim for this to become our main channel of briefing you on what we have done during the week and also provide info regarding homework etc.

If you sign up as a member of the page and provide your email address, what we post will automatically be sent to your email-adress. Bear with us if there are any complications doing this...

Now to our past week,
Yathzee has been played! A great way to practice addition and something we recommend for a fun evening at home. We made it simpler by playing with three die only.

Working on a fun art project has also been a major activity this week, using watercolor and thinking alot about different spaces.

We have also used the iPads, in pairs, writing about their favorite animal. And drawing illustrations. Last week they finished writing about friendship and how you can be a good friend.

During yesterday's surprise fire drill yesterday several children got scared, while some were a little over excited. It was a good reminder for all of us to always wear our indoor shoes and not worry about bringing our bags. The aim being to go out as calmly and quickly as possible.

It is Earth hour on Saturday and it would be great if many can switch off their lights and electricity and see what fun things you can think of doing using only candle light in the dark! We'll talk about it in school on Tuesday.

Next week on Thursday March 28th, school ends after lunch and fritids takes over from then. Fritids would like all the children to be picked up by 16 o'clock, since it is a day before a holiday.

Please read the notes from the last school council which has been sent to you by email :)

Umbrella, underwear, UFO's, unicorn were some things brought in for "U". We love the spread!

Next Week 13:

* Monday 25/3 - Bring things beginning with "W" for Monday's Alphabet corner.
Also bring in your Home Story Books! We will not give out any new homestory books
over Easterbreak, but hope you keep up the reading anyway. :)

* Wednesday 27/3 - Show and Tell for Stella, Victor,Vincent, Sam and Marcus!
APT-remember to pick up before 16.00!

* Thursday 28/3 - School ends after lunch. Please pick up before 16.00.

* Week 14 - Easter break!

A real mozaique!!! Which one did you paint?  :)

Have a Sunny Weekend!
