News week 19 (May 6th-8th)

Hey there!
It has been really great weather and hopefully it will continue for the long week-end!
On Monday, the children did fantastic covers for their Alphabet books. Many of them also got to write in their Newsbooks.
Science this week was exciting when the children got to test which 20 objects they had on their trays could float, which ones sank and which ones floated a short while before sinking. Check out pictures on the blog!
We had an interesting outing to the Spårvägsmuseem. The children had a little tour with background history on the development of collective transport in Stockholm. They also got to paint something related to what they had seen during the tour. It was almost a meditative moment to see them all engrossed in their painting.

Many children are switching to Swedish during class-time. We have spoken to the class about the importance of speaking in English. For many of the children, class-time and school an opportunity to speak in English with other children. Please speak to them about this at home.

Hopefully you will all be able to enjoy some time off! Next week, back to a normal full week!

Next Week : week 20
 Monday: Bring in your Home Story Books.
Coming up...
 Monday 27th May : The new 6 year olds are visiting the school and will be using our classroom, so we have to leave them an hour the space/time. We will be going to the park. Bring a packed lunch and water!

Have a great weekend!

News week 16, 15th – 19th of April 2013

Hi there! This week, we had no Alphabet Corner because on Monday the dental hygienist came to talk to the class about taking care of our teeth.

She talked about animals who have teeth and those who do not. She told us what teeth were for. Of course there was a long discussion about what kind of food one has to be careful to eat. But most important of all, she explained how to brush your teeth to keep them healthy. The children had a lot to say about teeth and even about wearing braces! They wrote about how many teeth they had dropped in their Newsbooks.

Some were not happy with the color of their brush..

On Tuesday, we worked the whole day in half class with one half of the group doing math books and the other half doing a clay painting project with Robson. That worked out quite well.
On Thursday, we also worked the whole day in half class with half of the group continuing to work with the Science project. This week, the discussion was around “what objects are solid objects?” This was a chance for those who had missed out on the science project to catch up on what we have been doing so far.

Today Friday, we worked on an art project: “What do you see through your window?” It was creative and inspiring.  We have also been doing some singing so the children might be humming a song they learnt for a while.

Next Week : week 17
·         Monday 22nd of April: Letter “Y”. remember to give your child something for the Alphabet Corner!
·         Thursday 25th. School has the monthly staff meeting so please try to pick your children up by 15.45
Enjoy the expected warmer days this weekend! J www.jitterbugzblog.blogspot.se

We want to encourage the whole class to register to participate in the minimarathon. This is a wonderful event which is very well organised which will take place on Saturday the 2nd of June. Maybe you can register as a class? For instance team : Fe-Johannes skola?  and eventually think of meeting somewhere for a picnic afterwards? It is a very pleasant day (if it does not rain) Here in school, we will try to organise regular practice for the mini marathon . You can look at the official website for more info : www.minimaran.se

News week 15

Welcome back...

...from your Easter break.

The kids have been eager to get back to work, so we have!
Our Alphabet corner is now filled with x-words, axe, the Lorax, flexi-tracks, fox, x-ray, box, Alexander, T-rex and an exam!

We are completing the drawings of the months and a cover in order to produce a small book with them all.

Our science project “solids and liquids” has begun! It will carry on for several weeks this spring. We will be investigating properties of different solid objects (and later liquids), approximately twice a week in half class groups. The groups are called “the sun” and “the moon”. When one group is working with science, the other group will be working with Robson.

They were really into the work and good at putting words to their thoughts.

Our outing to the theater on Thursday was another exciting part of our week.
And it went really well!

The children enjoyed the play “Snäll” and had a good time in the park afterwards.

We had a really interesting discussion about the play when we were back in the classroom again.

A very exciting part of this wek was to recieve a secret friend
Next week we will see if we figure out who it was....

News Week 13 (March 25th-28th)

Hello everyone!

It is slowly getting a little warmer and everyone is beginning to get a bit of that “Spring feel.”

After Easter might be the time to look through your children’s boxes and take home winter stuff. It might also be a good moment to look through the lost and found clothes in the A house!

We have had a fun week filled with learning activities and crafty projects.

Letter “W” in the Alphabet Corner brought us objects like a window cleaner, wands, the statue of a witch, soft toy of a whale, drawing of water melon, Wii game, wheel barrow , world record book and “Wreck-it Ralf” film poster.

We discussed Earth hour, what it meant and what some of us had done.

Everyone drew a picture and wrote something about Earth Hour or of something they had done over the weekend.

Sorry about the quality of the photos, the writing is in pencil, come check them out in the classroom for a better read!

During fruit time we are currently reading this book aloud.
The children are really enjoying the story.

When they have finished their fruit, they are able to sit on the round rug. Almost every time they start massaging each other! So it happens that we continue doing that when we have finished reading.

On Thursday, the children made creative Easter cards with FA. It was fun to be with them  and do crafts together.

We also made little “bird Easter cards” for our mentor class and surprised them with our “nest” full of birds. The birds then flew to all their buddies in the the 3e classroom ;). It was a sweet pre-easter reunion. How happy they were!

Week 15 (after the Easter break)

  • Monday April 8th: Letter X- as it is difficult to find things which begin with the letter “X” we want the children to bring in objects which have an “x” in them. Fewer children have been bringing in objects: Help and encourage your children to bring in objects. It makes the lesson more fun!
  • Wednesday April 10th: We start with our Science project in half class, so we will not be having gym classes. No gym clothes!
  • Thursday April 11th: Outing to the theatre. Bring a pack lunch!

Please note the correct blog address for our class:
